A Better Plan - Community Forums

Now that the $133 Million Referendum has been defeated, all are welcome to participate in developing a Better Plan for District 113.
Please visit http://www.davidgreenberg.org/forum
To join the discussions.  If there's something you think needs to be covered, please add your thoughts.
Note: This isn't even close to something official, it's not sanctioned by District 113, but no one has announced anything and we need to get started.  All are welcome!

David, you have got to be kidding! The District had months of community meetings and input, hired professionals, hosted tours and posted information on their website. It was all very transparent. They did put together a plan with COMMUNITY input. Now you want to post something on your website? I'm glad you say that this is not sanctioned by the District because you have absolutely no authority in this. It's been one week since the elections. Give me a break! Education First said they had a better plan. Pete K. put his name on the line for that. I am waiting to see THAT plan.

No, not kidding Beth. The process was not very transparent, and much input from the community was not taken into account. I never claimed to have any authority in this, but as we haven't heard anything from the Board (other than they were "displeased"), I thought I'd take my time to help facilitate a location where there could be input.

The signs all said "...so we can get to work on a better plan." The "WE" is the community. The solution will require input from BOTH sides of the aisle. That's what the forum is for.

David, in case you didn't notice, you didn't win the election for District 113 School Board (which is a good thing because you don't understand the legal requirements around education in this country and for parents who don't think it is appropriate to have guns in our schools). It is up to the Administration and the elected members of the School Board to call for community input as they develop a new plan. I am sure that the community will hear plenty from you during that process.

Ms. Kopin, I did notice that I narrowly missed securing a seat by 353 votes, and for a first time run at the Board, I believe I did quite well in a field of 10 candidates. Interestingly enough, the mayoral election in HP was decided by 347 votes. I do understand the legal requirements around education. I haven't heard from the School Board/Administration about a new plan yet. Have you?

Folks:

Don't justify Mr. Greenberg's "forum" with a response. Suddenly he's open to other viewpoints? NO. He wants to "own" this issue and thinks he can get some credibility from "both sides of the aisle". Mr Greenberg doesn't realize the school board isn't congress, and the currently elected school board is "both sides of the aisle" not him. Education First should come out with some parameters of the discussion, but that should be with reasonable minds, like Mr. Becker.

There is a saying in the architectural community that "a camel is a horse designed by a committee." The Board had a viable process. The community rejected the results. Now they need to start over with a different team.

Jim: I have ALWAYS been open to other viewpoints. Both sides of the aisle isn't just the School Board, it's from the Community. The vote demonstrated that people thought the plan was one-sided. I'm not saying that I'm going to build a new plan all by myself, or that you're going to do it. I'm merely providing a location for ANYONE who wants to participate to contribute.

It certainly can't do any harm, and with some of the issues at hand - such as use of technology, we may generate ideas that both enhance education and save money. What's wrong with that?

Tripp: Yes they do. The forum can be an input to that team.
