Highland Park Author Sheds Light on Panic Attacks and Offers Tools for Overcoming Anxiety in New Book
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders affect 18% of the population. Though anxiety disorders are highly preventable and treatable, only a small percentage of those suffering from chronic anxiety access treatment. For individuals looking for relief from panic attacks and professionals eager to help their clients overcome anxiety, Sandra Scheinbaum,
Ph.D. presents the book How to Give Clients the Skills to Stop Panic Attacks: Don’t Forget to Breathe (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, June 2012).
How to Give Clients the Skills to Stop Panic Attacks: Don’t
Forget to Breathe shows how it is possible to prevent and abort a panic attack through functional medicine. Dr. Scheinbaum educates readers on how to identify and understand panic and then offers practical tools, exercises and motivational scripts, which enables individuals to control the anxiety which causes panic. Through breathing techniques, positive imagery, rational thinking, dietary changes, and yoga, Dr. Scheinbaum offers readers a roadmap to relief from panic attacks.
A licensed clinical psychologist with more than 30 years’ experience, Dr. Scheinbaum is no stranger to anxiety and panic attacks. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Scheinbaum has treated hundreds of individuals suffering from anxiety. Since her doctoral training, she studied integrative and functional medicine, nutrition, yoga, cognitive-behavior therapy and a variety of other techniques for
achieving inner peace. She too struggled with anxiety and panic attacks, but applied these mind-body therapies, modified her diet and started an exercise routine. Today she lives a panic-free life and is able to offer the same guidance to her patients, other health professionals and the general public through her new book.
“Functional medicine is an exciting model that is emerging as one of the most powerful trends in 21st century healthcare,” said Dr. Scheinbaum. “Rather than sticking with the traditional route of naming the disorder and then using medication to treat the condition, functional medicine allows for holistic healing. Not simply treating the symptom of panic, but finding the cause and quelling other health issues that may stem from the disorder. I’ve seen it work
in my life and my client’s lives as well. This book offers the necessary tools for individuals to find relief.”
