Highland Park Has A Magic Garden

Dozens of giant Peacocks, Dragonflies, Butterflies,
and Ladybugs are now on display along the streets of downtown Highland Park.
This Magic Garden, so appropriately named, of mosaic, decoupage, painted and
otherwise adorned creations, will be on Central Avenue and Second Street
throughout the summer for shoppers, diners and passer’s by to enjoy while
strolling through the city.

The FREE exhibit is the culmination of many months
of work by more than 50 local artists. One piece, a Peacock designed by
Bernadette Elenteny Joyce, required over 600 hours of loving labor. Each work
is on display with a poem written or selected by the artist. Plaques placed
near each magical piece have "QR Codes" to connect smart phones with
the project website for information about the works and the artists.

In September, the objects of art will then be sold
at auction with proceeds being divided equally between the Artists and The Art
Center of Highland Park. Last year the project raised more than $40,000 for
local artists and The Art Center of Highland Park.

 Highland
Park's Magic Garden Project is a 100% privately funded collaboration of The Art
Center of Highland Park, Highland Park Poetry, Property Owners and Retailers
designed to bring attention and appreciation to the art, ambiance and
aesthetics of the community.
