Seventh Annual Ken & Alta Thiel Strong Kids Dinner Set for May 1, 2013
The North Suburban YMCA will host the Seventh Annual Ken and Alta Thiel Strong Kids Fundraising Dinner on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Allgauer’s Hilton in Northbrook. The Strong Kids Fund provides financial assistance to families in need, enabling them to participate in the Y’s many programs and services. The 2013 dinner attracted approximately 360 guests and raised over $230,000.
Through the support raised by the Strong Kids Fund, the Y gives families access to childcare, summer camp, membership, special needs, wellness, and all other programs offered by the Y. “The Y is open to everyone in the community, including those who may need financial assistance,” notes NSYMCA Executive Director/CEO Howard Schultz. “The Strong Kids Fund is a lifeline to people who are going through economic difficulties.”
Currently, one out of five individuals using the Y receives some level of need-based financial assistance, and this past year the Y provided over $460,000 worth of fee abatements. Over the last six years, the Ken & Alta Thiel Strong Kids Dinner has raised more than $1.2 Million, helping over 10,000 individuals in need to participate in Y programs and services.
The 2013 dinner will honor Edward J. Wehmer, President and CEO of Wintrust, as the recipient of the Thiel Award for Leadership and Social Responsibility. Wintrust community banks have established a long record of philanthropic initiatives in the neighborhoods they serve. Wintrust and its affiliate Northbrook Bank & Trust have been especially strong supporters of the North Suburban YMCA: under the leadership of Wehmer and Northbrook Bank CEO Richard C. Rushkewicz, the two entities have donated over $150,000 to the North Suburban YMCA’s recent capital campaign and an additional $50,000 to the Strong Kids Fund over the last five years, making them the largest corporate donors to the Y’s financial assistance program.
Wehmer joins a distinguished list of past award recipients, including Ken and Alta Thiel, Allstate Insurance, Ron Bernardi, Northbrook Rotary, the Northbrook Woman’s Club, and First Bank of Highland Park.
The Ken and Alta Thiel Strong Kids Fundraising Dinner on May 1 will feature delicious food, cocktails, live music, live and silent auctions, games and surprises. A wide variety of sponsorship opportunities are available. Tickets are $125. For ticket, sponsorship, or donation information, contact Barb Flanagin at firstname.lastname@example.org, 847 272 7250.
