List of Endorsements Grows for Dold Challengers
Wheeling Democrats back Tree, Sheyman for Congress; Morrison for State Senate.
Ilya Sheyman and John Tree shared the endorsement of the Wheeling Township Democrats Wednesday for the upcoming March 20 primary to become the Democratic challenger to Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) in the Nov. 6 general election.
Sheyman, a community organizer from Waukegan and Long Grove business owner Tree received the nod over Deerfield management consultant Brad Schneider, Mundelein attorney Vivek Bavda and Hainesville mathematician Aloys Rutagwbira.
Though a shared endorsement is unusual, Wheeling Democrats President Rob Nesvacil expressed confidence in both candidates. “Both Tree and Sheyman have demonstrated a tireless will to fight for the middle class and a stronger American future,” he said.
The Wheeling Democrats also expressed their preference for West Deerfield Supervisor Julie Morrison over Lake Bluff business consultant Milton Sumption in the race to succeed retiring state Sen. Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest).
This endorsement was one in a growing list for Tree and Sheyman.
Sheyman also has the backing of the Libertyville Democrats, AFSCME Council 31, the Lake County Federation of Teachers, Rep. Danny Davis (D-Chicago), Cook County Commissioner Larry Sufferdin and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.
Tree, who earned the endorsement of former Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) Thursday (Jan. 26), considers the Wheeling nod a sign the campaign he began in November is gaining momentum.
“I appreciate the support from the Wheeling Township Democrats,” Tree said. “These are very tough times for all of us, and I believe that we are all in this together. The Republicans believe it’s every man for himself.”
Schneider has also received backing from a number of organizations and individuals both in the 10th District and across the country.
Schneider already has the backing of the Maine Township Democrats, and Thursday added the support of Local 134 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He is also pleased with the people who support his campaign, including House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD).
“We are grateful for so many local and grassroots supporters,” Schneider said. “Our diverse network of Democratic leaders and grassroots network of supporters will give us the energy and resources we need to get Congress focused on helping middle class families.”
Former Rep. Melissa Bean (D-Barrington), state Sen. Jeff Schoenberg (D-Evanston) and Garrett are in Schneider’s camp along with Hoyer.
The New Trier Township Democratic Organization will endorse candidates Sunday (Jan. 29) while the Northfield Township Democrats will do the same Feb. 4.

Really? This is a joke, right? Wheeling Democrats choose their favorite Democrat candidates and this garners the headline, "List of Endorsements Grows for Dold Challengers?" I was expecting to see endorsements from non-political organizations, not the Democrats endorsing themselves!! Ha!!

Yes, exactly. Only difference is that this time it's a conservative (me) pointing out how hypocritical the liberals (you) are.
Pot, kettle--meet DDP.

Abigail, you are a tempest in a teapot. Honestly! I am supporting Ilya Sheyman who believes our government should be focusing on job creation, rebuilding the middle class, and restoring the American Dream. Ilya understands that giving tax breaks to billionaires while gutting Social Security & Medicare and other core services our communities depend on is not getting us where we need to be going.

There is nothing to "gut" in Social Security or Medicare. The government already spent all the money. How much worse can it get?

"Rebuilding the middle class?" Since when has any Democrat cared about rebuilding the middle class? All they want to do is take money from the middle class! Talk about me being a "tempest in teapot," maybe you should reassess your political views. Democrats have never done anything for the middle class. They either cater to the Democrat ultra-rich (Warren Buffett) or the deadbeat takers.
Social Security will eventually run out of cash. Monies being paid out now is coming from money borrowed from the Chinese. And you think the Dems can fix this? What has Obama done in the past 3 years? Where are the jobs he promised? The Dems had control of Congress and didn't fix anything. Time to give the job to people that WANT to make things better and that surely isn't any Democrat--they and Obama don't know how.

You all sound like a bunch of campaign interns. Ideas, Abigail. Ideas. I haven't read a single cogent presentation from you. Defining what you are against as being what you are for doesn't help anyone understand why they should embrace your cause ... unless you are so arrogant as to disrespect their capacity to think as you cannot. My guess is you might be very effective filling camera backdrop and holding a sign, but that's about as far as it flies.

Charlie,
You want to talk ideas? Good. Let's start with you.
What's your take on Soc Sec + Medicare? ... and remember... try not to sound like a campaign intern and please state what you are for, not only what you are against.

Oooh. Guess you told me. My take is more than $2K a month, and I don't care what yours is. And I since I've been doing such a good job at this, they gave me a 10% raise this month. I get a raise, a dolt gets re-elected, geez we're both genuine working stiffs.

Well now we have plumbed the depths of Charlie's "ideas". By "take" I meant "what do you think of the structure of the program", not "how much are you taking from the program". But don't bother now. I got my answer.

No you got your take, not mine. If you want to play with words, try going to school We, or I? Which are you?

Sheyman is a bold choice. Let's get behind him and support his progressive ideals! I truly believe he can carry the principles that made this country great. Tax the rich! Let's build this middle class. We need bold action in times like this.
