Unique Events Heading to Highland Park

Check out Mayor Nancy Rotering's recap of these cool events coming to Highland Park, including Auto Historica XII, a rare and antique car show held Saturday.

Over the next few weeks, our hometown will be host to a number of unique events for all ages and interests. All are open to the public and most are free.  Join us!

Auto Historica XII
This is the place to be if you are a car buff! The Auto Historica is considered one of the elite exhibitions of rare and unusual automobiles in the Midwest.  Over 50 antique and rare cars will be featured including a 1920s Vauxhall and a 1959 PTV microcar, the only one of its kind in America.  Admission is $5, kids under 12 are free and the proceeds support the Historical Society. Click here for more information.

1st Annual ShedFest
Popular Chicago funk and rhythm band "Dick Holliday and the Bamboo Gang" headline the 1st Annual ShedFest, an all day outdoor festival of live music, showcasing a dozen local bands. The event is hosted by The Shed, the new Highland Park musician's club where North Shore professionals come to re-engage their musical aspirations.  Proceeds benefit Rebecca's Dream, a Chicago non-profit dedicated to raising awareness for teen depression and bipolar disorder. Tickets are $10.  Food and drink will be available for purchase. Click here for more information.

Free Party and Ravinia Concert for all High School Students
Don't miss the Second Annual "Cannon Ball," a free pre-concert party for all Chicagoland high school students, including free lawn admission to Tchaikovsky's "1812" Overture, when Ravinia rolls out the live cannons for the finale.  The weather should be perfect for a Sunday night party and concert on the lawn hosted by Ravinia for high school students. 110th Western Amateur Golf Championship
Exmoor Country Club is welcoming the public to the 110th Western Amateur Golf Championship, considered one of the most demanding and prestigious amateur golf competitions in the world.  Past champions have included Chick Evans, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and Ben Crenshaw.  Competition starts on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The 44 players with the lowest scores will continue on to play on Thursday with the low 16 advancing to match play on Friday.  Friday's play narrows the field to 4 semi-finalists, who compete on Saturday morning. The championship is also held on Saturday.  Admission is free and parking is available at Highland Park High School.  Considered the Masters of amateur golf, this unique event was last hosted at Exmoor in 1952.  For more information click here.

Sidewalk Sale
Find those one-of-a-kind items during the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce's Sidewalk Sale Days.  More than 80 merchants from throughout Highland Park are bringing their merchandise to downtown Highland Park forbargains galore.  Admission and parking are free.  Click here for more information.

Port Clinton Art Festival and Taste of Highland Park - Friday, August 24 through Sunday August 26, downtown Highland Park

For 29 years, the Port Clinton Art Festival has been recognized as one of the most successful juried art festivals in the country. This distinguished outdoor festival offers unique fine art from more than 260 of the world's most celebrated artists.  

Kicking off the festival weekend is the 6th Annual Taste of Highland Park, which opens Friday and runs in conjunction with the festival throughout the weekend. The Taste features food from many of Highland Park's most notable restaurants.  In addition, Taste-goers will enjoy a variety of live musical performances from acclaimed bands on Friday and Saturday nights. Admission and parking are free.  Click here for more information.
