Holiday Hoopla in Highland Park
That magic feeling, along with elections, city council initiatives, controversial films and Thanksgiving bliss, came to Highland Park this week.
The holidays are here in Highland Park after the city was decked out in its festive best at last Sunday's tree lighting. As we got closer to Thanksgiving, Patch gave you some ideas to make that Thanksgiving feast extra special — Highland Park style.
And speaking of breaking bread, an interfaith Thanksgiving service was held at the Lakefront Congregation for Reform Judaism Wednesday evening for all people of faith.
Maxwell Wilson reviewed the controversial film "Kike Like Me" which tackled complex perceptions of Jews internationally that screened recently at the North Suburban Chabad and Samantha Nelson took a close-up look at the local Italian eatery, Bella Via.
Outsourcing certain city services was discussed in a city council meeting in addition to the council considering combining the environmental and lakefront commissions.
Patch started to give you the real breakdown of the upcoming city elections next April and took a look at some mayoral candidates. We also heard from supporters of Park District Board members Cal Bernstein and Elaine Waxman.
In collaboration with the Northbrook, Glenview, Deerfield, Wilmette-Kenilworth Patches, we gave you a special report on train safety and danger on the tracks.
The District 112 Caucus is looking forward to endorsing new candidates for the school board next week and the Highland Park Giants' basketball team looks forward to their upcoming season.
Patch also found time to run a 5k and a 10k on Thanksgiving morning and finally, with bellies full and the beginning of gift giving, Highland Park residents tried their hand at ice sculpture.
Take a look at some photos from the week that was.
