Motorcyclist Hospitalized After Hitting Urinal on Edens
Toilet falls off flatbed and lands motorcyclist with a broken ankle.
A motorcyclist ended up in the hospital Monday morning when he hit a stainless steel urinal on the Edens Expressway just past the Lake Cook Road southbound exit.
The urinal fell off a flatbed truck headed southbound on the Edens in the middle lane. According to police, at 6:35 a.m. the motorcyclist switched from the left lane to the middle and struck the urinal laying in the road, causing him to fall off his motorcycle. He suffered a broken left ankle and was transported to Evanston Hospital.
The flatbed truck driver was cited with failure to secure load and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 26.

Ouch, that's sure to P**s a guy off! Seriously, as a motorcycle rider these are some of the fears on the highway and thankfully it did not cause more serious injuries!

Kurt, I believe the motorcyclist is going to be ok. Police reported that he did suffer from a broken ankle because of the incident.

I know the motorcyclist. He is doing pretty well. Undergoing a second surgery on his leg tomorrow. It will be 3 months of no pressure on the leg and a year to year and a half of recovery time. More will be determined after the 2nd surgery. i.e. will prosthesis be necessary, etc.

He broke at least 2 bones in his left leg and lost most of the muscle and tissue surrounding the lower leg. The doctors left the wound open until Thursday when they will go back in for more surgery. His ankle is also bad. He broke two bones in his right hand and ligaments between the fingers. He is expected to be non-weight bearing for at least 3 months. There will be a long recovery. What he remembers about the accident is that sheet metal came off a plumbing truck and other cars swirved out of the way, but being on the bike, it was too late for him to avoid.

Thanks so much for the update, Cathy, though I'm sorry to hear the motorcyclist suffered more than the police report indicated. I hope his surgery tomorrow goes well so he can start recovering.

Most unfortunate and best wishes for a speedy recovery. I can tell you that often when riding my motorcycle on the tollway, the thought that one simple move by a car can spell disaster is always on my mind. It is dangerous enough here in downtown HP with so many people that do not look or yield properly.

I have no humor for the article focusing on the urinal instead of the injuries my brother sustained,he is lucky to be alive he is in terrible pain with multiple breaks in his leg and hand. The question that needs to be asked is why was.'t there a gate on the back of the truck. his second surgery went well hopefully the ones to follow will also go well.

Hoping for the quickest painfree recovery as is possible.. Dangerous enough out there without jerks securing their loads.. While the accident was bad, the truck driver is lucky it was not worse... Sue the socks off the driver. Maybe others will learn..

I hope the plumber has good insurance, his business is about to lose a bundle to cover
medical expenses plus pain and suffering.
