Update: Robbery Reported at Chase Bank in Highland Park

Update 12:40 p.m. Photos of the white male who robbed the Chase Bank at 9:20 a.m. Thursday morning have been released by the Highland Park Police Deparment. Click the images on the right to see the robber receive money from the teller and leave the bank.

Earlier: A robbery took place Thursday morning at the at 513 Central Avenue in downtown Highland Park.

According to a news release issued by the Highland Park Police Department, a white male walked up to a Chase teller at 9:20 a.m. and presented a note that implied he had a gun. The note directed the teller to turn over cash from her drawer. The teller gave the approximately 25-year-old man an undetermined amount of cash, and he then left the bank, fleeing on foot.

The release adds that while "no vehicle description is available at this time, the incident is being investigated jointly by the Highland Park Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

As of 11:30 a.m., police cars lined Central and First Street, with officers standing on all sides of the bank building. Yellow police tape kept customers away while officers dusted the Chase doors for prints.

Though Highland Park Police officer Phil DeLaurentis assured Patch that the incident presented no danger to the community, the police have asked School District 112 to implement a building lockdown at  and  schools as a precautionary measure.

The news release describes the robber as slender and tall, wearing a black baseball hat, glasses, a blue, longsleeve button-down shirt, blue jeans, brown shoes and a yellow and black backpack.

Update 12:00 p.m. Patch reader Rachel Melcher wrote in with more information about the robbery:

This morning, around 9:30 a.m., I saw a handful of police officers out of their cars with guns drawn advancing down the north sidewalk of Central Avenue between St. Johns Avenue and Sheridan Road. They were headed east, silently waving their arms to herd cars and pedestrians out of the area. An additional two or three squad cars, plus an unmarked car, pulled up silently with their lights on to join those already on foot.
