Citing instances where efficiencies can be pursued to make the city more environmentally-friendly, Stone referenced the process she went through to get a green roof approved for her home.

"[The city staff doesn't] have a process by which to approve a green roof," Stone said. "I don't think anyone else would have gone through what I went through."

Stone has spent years working with the transportation commission to come up with a recommendation for the city council that would result in more consideration given to pedestrians and cyclers during street construction projects.

"When the city does changes or construction on the road they need to take the needs of all the users into account," Stone said. "Currently they just take into consideration the needs of the cars."

Mandel support's Stone's candidacy and is excited that someone is running for the city council that shares his passion for environmental issues.

"I had some concerns about who would take my advocacy role," Mandel said, "but I am convinced [Stone] has the ability to deal with all these other issues as a city council person."

A graduate from Middlebury College with a B.A. in Art History and a minor in physics, Stone earned a Master of Public Policy and Master of Science degrees at University of Michigan.
