Tree’s Voting Record Shows Missed Elections

Democratic Congressional candidate has voted only twice since 2000.

Congressional Candidate John Tree of Long Grove, one of four contenders in the March 20 Democratic primary, has voted only twice since 2000 according to an article in today’s Daily Herald.

According to the article, Tree voted in the 2008 and 2010 general elections. He did not vote in primary or municipal elections in the past because he wanted to maintain non partisanship as a colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve.

“I have not voted in local non-partisan elections before for the same reasons regarding the military culture, even though at a very local level, I understand the races are not partisan,” Tree said to Patch today.

The full Daily Herald story also discusses the voting records of the other Democrats, Brad Schneider of Deerfield, Ilya Sheyman of Waukegan and Vivek Bavda of Mundelein as well as the man they want to challenge in the Nov. 6 general election, Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth).

I don't know where this guy votes, but where I vote, your ballot is private. Maybe the military handles things differently. Or maybe some excuses are being made. What if he gets voted in, and decides he won't vote because he doesn't want people to know his opinion. I think he's giving us all a reason not to vote for him.

Your ballot is private but not your voting record. In Primary elections, you ask for a Democratic or Republican Ballot and that is a public record. It would be hard for him to appear non-partisan if he were to request a Democratic or Republican Ballot.

Others may call themselves “Progressive” (in fact, Tree and Schneider are both throwing the term around, hoping it will stick to them), but Ilya Sheyman is the only candidate on the ballot who has demonstrated through deed and action that he is willing to stand up and fight for social justice and equal opportunity for all.
