Highland Park seniors Josh Sterns and Jake Norcia combined for 39 points in the Giants regional win over Deerfield

Quick Recap: Deerfield jumped out to an early lead and had as much as a five point advantage in the first half, thanks to seven first quarter points from Alex Sacks. However, Highland Park went on a 10-2 run to close out the first half and led 23-20 at halftime. Giants senior guard Jake Norcia scored nine points in the third quarter to help Highland Park build an eight point edge going into the fourth quarter. Despite a resilient comeback effort from the Warriors, Highland Park held on for a nine point victory, as Josh Sterns scored eight of his game high 22 points in the fourth quarter.
Key Players: Sterns scored 22 points and pulled down six rebounds for Highland Park while Norcia scored 17 and had three steals. Senior Ross Chuckerman was also in double digits for the Giants, scoring nine of his 11 points in the second half.
Sacks, a senior captain for the Warriors, led the team with 18 points, shooting 4-7 from three. Fellow senior captain Mack Watts chipped in 11 points and dished out five assists for the Warriors. Sophomore guard Eric Porter scored 12 points and junior Anthony Shapiro added nine.
Key Stats: Highland Park shot 60% from the field, connecting on 21 of 35 shots. They also went 12-18 from the free throw line, compared to just 2-3 for Deerfield. The Warriors shot 45% from the field, but were 50% from beyond the three point line (13-26).
What's Next: Highland Park takes on St. Viator in the regional semifinal at 7:30 p.m. today at Rolling Meadows High School.
