Highland Park High School has begun assembling next year's weeklong celebration of the arts. Here's how you can help.
Wondering how you can help out with FOCUS on The Arts 2013?
FOCUS is looking for volunteers to help during our mailing campaign on Oct. 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in room A227 at Highland Park High School. Whether you can stick around for a few hours or only a few minutes, any help is appreciated. The mailing campaign consists of sending a letter to local businesses and families asking for donations for Focus. Anyone interested in stopping by and volunteering, please contact Lauren Cherny at email@example.com.
Another way to help is by making donations, which can either be mailed to Focus on the Arts, 433 Vine Avenue, Highland Park, or made online at www.hphsfocus.org/donate.
In April 2013 Highland Park High School will host FOCUS on the Arts 2013: Explore, Engage, Enlighten. Ever since the first FOCUS program at HPHS in 1964, the mission of FOCUS has been to increase appreciation and understanding of the visual and performing arts and the professionals engaged in them. FOCUS has been the catalyst for careers and the inspiration for lifelong interest in the arts for many people.
Presented every other year for HPHS students and the local community, FOCUS explores a broad variety of art forms by engaging students through direct interaction and involvement with a diverse array of professionals in the arts. The students come away from this experience enlightened with a new appreciation and understanding of the arts. Many students will also have the opportunity to share their own visual and performing arts works with fellow students and the community during FOCUS.
Hundreds of volunteers including parents, HPHS staff and faculty, students and community members work together to coordinate three days and four nights of programming on the HPHS campus. All programs are open to the public free of charge.
FOCUS events include:
•Movie Night – a presentation of student videos/films
•Opening Night celebration and music performance
•Art Night for visual art exhibits and demonstrations
•Dance Night with dance performances
Plus over 200 day time events including master classes, hands-on workshops, demonstrations, lectures, and performances with an emphasis place on audience participation.
FOCUS on the Arts is made possible through contributions from private individuals, foundations, civic agencies and organizations, local businesses, and private corporations.
