Plant something you can eat. You don't need much room, and eating something you've grown yourself is satisfying, cost effective and promotes understanding where our food comes from. If you don't want to dig up the flower bed, start with some potted herbs or tomatoes in a sunny corner of the yard.

Environmentalists Sharon Danks and Rachel Pringle spoke at Highland Park Public Library last weekend about what the city's schools could do to become greener and more sustainable.

The discussion, hosted by Moraine Township, focused on encouraging administrators, educators and community members to make their local school yards greener.
