Jacob Burroughs, a student at Highland Park High School, was appointed as an ex officio  member to the Highland Park Public Library Board of Trustees.  Burroughs is a sophomore at Highland Park High School and will serve a one year term.  Burroughs is the second high school student to serve on the Library’s Board. 

    To increase communication between the high school and the library, and to make sure that teens’ needs are being met, the Library Board added a seat for a high school student last year.  This year, with the Library’s 125^th anniversary in September, Library Board of Trustees president Chris Sheahen explained, “We want to celebrate the past as well as look to the future.   We’ll count on Jacob’s input and outreach to his fellow students.”

     Burroughs got his start at the Library early, participating in Book Match, a recreational reading program for 4^th-7^th graders where readers match wits with other readers in book-based tournaments. He also volunteered as a junior page, helping shelve books and assisting with the Youth Department’s summer reading program.  Today, Burroughs continues to be a heavy library user -- regularly checking out books, attending programs, using the library’s electronic resources, and volunteering his time to offer patrons technology advice – which makes him well versed in all that the library has to offer. 

     The Library Board of Trustees is composed of nine other members of the community, appointed by the mayor.
