Children’s Book Drive at First Bank of Highland Park
First Bank of Highland Park, 1835 1st St, Highland Park, IL | Get Directions »
FREE
Recognizing the importance of early childhood literacy, First Bank of Highland Park will be holding a book drive throughout the month of August. All new and gently used children’s books will be collected in the lobby at their Highland Park location and donated to Bernie’s Book Bank, an organization that facilitates the collection, processing and redistribution of children’s books into “at-risk” homes in the Chicagoland area.
The book drive will be in conjunction with a month-long exhibition of The Kohl Children’s Museum on the bank’s Ruth Fell Wander Community Art Wall. The museum’s mission is to encourage young children to become effective learners through self-directed complex interactive play. Kohl Children’s Museum is located at 2100 Patriot Blvd., in Glenview, IL.
ABOUT THE RUTH FELL WANDER COMMUNITY ART WALL
The Ruth Fell Wander Community Art Wall was created in 2002 to showcase novice artwork from local schools and non-profit organizations, as well as to give visibility to the various resources and services offered to the community. Ruth Fell Wander served on First Bank of Highland Park’s Board of Directors from 1987 until 2002. She brought her endless energy, creativity and intelligence to the many committees that she participated on throughout her tenure. Ruth appreciated and loved the arts, and according to friends, her home was an expansive gallery of exciting artwork. Ruth passed away in 2002, and First Bank of Highland Park dedicated the public wall in memory of this outstanding woman who gave generously and thoughtfully to the community.
