Thousands of runners will get a rare opportunity to run on the soil at the Great Lakes Naval Station on Sunday, September 23, 2012 as part of the Fort2Base run. The race begins at Fort Sheridan in Highland Park and runs along beautiful Green Bay Trail to finish inside the Great Lakes Naval Station.

Participants will have a choice of two race distances, a 10 nautical mile (11.5 miles) distance or 3 nautical miles (3.45 miles) which runs within the private expanses of the Great Lakes Naval Station. Both courses offer participants a unique glimpse into beautiful scenic vistas of the North Shore as well as the base itself.

Family friendly post-race festivities will include an obstacle course, jousting tournaments and the opportunity to explore the military relics and equipment (tanks, cannons, model ships and aviation equipment).  Music; marching and refreshments will also be on-site.

Fort2Base will have finisher medals for all participants as well as men’s and women’s specific long-sleeved tech shirts.

Participants are encouraged to sign up early. The registration cost is $30 for the 3NM distance and $55 for the 10NM until June 30^th, with a gradual increase until the race registration deadline.
