DESCRIPTION:HIGHWOOD\, IL (SEPTEMBER 12\, 2012) &ndash\;&nbsp\;The City o
f Highwood\, in conjunction with the Union Pacific Railroad\, is proud t
o announce the installation of safety fencing on three sections near the
Highwood train station. The fencing will minimize non-commuter use of t
he pedestrian crossing at the Highwood Metra Station and is intended to
eliminate casual use of the pedestrian crossing and divert pedestrians i
n the area to the public roadway crossings (e.g. Highwood Avenue).&ldquo
\;This project is a great example of a public/private partnership workin
g to enhance safety in a community\,&rdquo\; said Adrian Guerrero\, Unio
n Pacific director - Public Affairs for Illinois.\nOne portion of the fe
nce will run along Green Bay Road from Highwood Avenue to North Avenue c
overing a length of approximately 403&rsquo\;. Another portion will run
alongside the east side of the passenger platform that will restrict ped
estrian crossings from the Highwood Train Station Lot to Green Bay Road.
The final portion of the fence will run along Green Bay Road from Highw
ood Avenue to Highwood City Hall.\nState Senator Susan Garrett also beca
me involved in this project as an intermediary and facilitated discussio
ns. &ldquo\;This fence ensures there is a barrier to prevent unnecessary
accidents\,&rdquo\; says Garrett. &ldquo\;This is not a construction fe
nce\, rather a permanent barrier that&rsquo\;s protective and aesthetica
lly pleasing.&rdquo\;\n&ldquo\;The safety of our citizens and visitors t
o Highwood is paramount\,&rdquo\; says Highwood Mayor Charlie Pecaro. &l
dquo\;With our weekly summer markets and seasonal events\, Highwood is a
main family destination in the North Shore. Safety is always our top co
ncern.&rdquo\;\nThe City of Highwood would like to thank Union Pacific f
or its commitment and cooperation to this project.\nFor any questions\,
residents may either visit the City&rsquo\;s website www.cityofhighwood.
