THE ARTS COME ALIVE IN DOWNTOWN HIGHLAND PARK: WINTER MOSAICS BY LOCAL ARTISTS TO LINE CENTRAL AVENUE STREETSCAPES
HIGHLAND PARK, IL (JANUARY 15, 2013) – The 2013 Winter Mosaics project is officially underway in Downtown Highland Park. The submissions have been chosen, and five local artists will have their pieces completed and put on display on the gorgeous landscaped streets. The Central Avenue Shopping District will be home to the Great Arts Winter Mosaics from January 15 through March 31, 2013.
The Great Arts Winter Mosaics will create an atmosphere of vibrant and lively winter scenes, while bringing creativity and interest to the community. Over 40 artists submitted their work for consideration, and five were chosen as finalists to create their juried mosaic. The “Best in Show” will receive $1,000. All works will be three feet high by six feet wide, and made to withstand winter weather conditions.
The third in a series of ongoing art installations on display in Downtown Highland Park, including Butterflies on Display and The Magic Garden, these projects exemplify the Great Arts throughout the community. The themed 'decorate the streets with art' contests bring the community together for various efforts to make Highland Park a more interesting and lively place to visit and shop.
Highland Park is fast becoming known as the North Shore’s destination for visual, performance, literary, and musical arts. The Highland Park Cultural Arts Network, or HPCAN, was designed to raise awareness of the uniqueness of the North Shore arts. They are dedicated to bringing mutual support to local cultural arts groups, as well as providing resources and information.
