A motorist crashed into a wall at Fuddruckers Sunday causing a wall to collapse.

An automobile crashed into the front of Fuddruckers after the restaurant closed late Sunday night at Clavey and Skokie Valley Roads in Highland Park taking out the exterior wall to one of the rooms but injuring no one inside the building.

The driver, a 24-year old male, was taken to Highland Park Hospital with minor, non life threatening injuries around 11 p.m. Sunday, according to Deputy Highland Park Police Chief Dave Schwarz. He was the only person in the car. Police are continuing to investigate to determine if charges will be filed against the motorist.

Early today, Fuddruckers officials were at the restaurant trying to determine the extent of the damage and how soon the eatery will open. “A car ran into the building,” Fuddruckers Team Leader Matt Remaroik said. “We’re making a lot of calls,” he added referring to attempts to determine the extent of the damage.

As of 10 a.m. today, most of the building’s interior appeared untouched and the power was working. The restaurant will not open today. Patch will keep readers updated on when it will reopen.

Well it was either an elderly person with one of those magical cars that have an accelerator that sticks, a teenager texting (such as the one that crashed into Pet Supplies Plus), or someone drinking and/or huffing (such as you know who).

Driver was very distraught over the assault weapons ban and this was his way of boycotting HP businesses.

Highland Park: if an establishment doesn't have a drive thru, then just make one yourself!

Standards wrote "It was really icy last night, i'm sure this was just a horrible accident. One day it may be your kid or your wife. Won't be such a joke then will it? YOu people really suck." You have to be kidding me, how fast would they be driving to crash into Fuddruckers? Or should I say how much were they drinking? This will never happen to my family. Too smart for that. ;)

That looks like a pretty big crash to do that extent of damage. Someone had to have been under the influence.

Agree Rich, We walk among the sheep!! it's scary!!
forest barbieri December 30, 2013 at 11:09 PM
That does not look like a ice induced crash!
Stu Pidasso December 30, 2013 at 11:29 PM
who said it was ice induced? Sounds like they have been hitting the glass pipe with ice themselves :)

What the hell is going on in HP? This is the 4th car crashing into a building within the last couple of months. Wake up people, gas is on the right BRAKE is on the LEFT!
Marci December 31, 2013 at 12:19 AM
This time it was not an elderly person - 24 year old young man. I have never seen this much damage on a building done by a car. Very frightening.

Will someone please drive their car through the front of the Silver Dollar Tavern in Highwood? Of course when we are closed(or would that be to good for us?)
Dan Richter December 31, 2013 at 12:42 AM
Unfortunately this wasn't a weather related accident. Few minutes before this imbecile parked in the middle of fuddruckers he hit my car going over 70mph on Deerfield rd and according to HPPD he hit another vehicle in Deerfiled a little earlier.

Whether we want to believe it or not, there are a considerable number of people who are constantly under the influence of prescription drugs. Talk to any of our area pharmacists and see what they dispense ( if they will be honest with you); Vicodin, Xanax, Viagra, Valium to name the top movers!! it is REALLY SCARY AROUND HERE AS FAR AS DRIVING GOES!!!
Moe @ the Buck December 31, 2013 at 01:10 AM
Dan, holy crap! I hope your ok. Luckily this schmuck ran through the free party room that nobody seems to use. thank god he didn't crash through the buffet bar @ Antons(its my favorite)
Stephanie Vlahakes Sachs December 31, 2013 at 01:27 AM
Dan, my stepson was the other car hit. He's fine, thankfully, but hopefully justice will be served!!!!
Dr. Terry December 31, 2013 at 09:09 AM
Just how long does it take the HP police to investigate something like this...or is this another special person with special rights.
Rich M December 31, 2013 at 10:25 AM
@Dr. Terry - Speaking of special person - you want to be sick? A friend of mine saw Carly Rousso at Target whining about the TV her mother was going to buy her for her room and how it wasn't big enough! I want her in prison!!! @Standards - I told you it wasn't the ice! It was a piece of s**t that crashed into other cars and then the building. You still "sure" this was just a horrible accident?

Affluenza??
AK December 31, 2013 at 01:47 PM
@Moe, why? Is biz this slow? I have a feeling local communist zombies & infected old fart Republicans will make bars illegal next year.
Daniel December 31, 2013 at 01:55 PM
Fuddruckers has listed the property for sublease for the last year or so. Its in the HP web site. Looks like they might be getting out afte rall.
Brendan Stewart December 31, 2013 at 04:34 PM
I drove past Fudruckers at 8:35 pm Sunday night. It was snowing lightly, but not nearly icy enough to cause a vehicle traveling the speed limit to slide over the median, other curb, and grass patch that it took to hit the building. I call bullshit, this was a matter of negligence
Dr. Terry December 31, 2013 at 05:29 PM
But, were still investigating Brendan....not to mention the two other cars he hit before crashing.
Moe @ the Buck December 31, 2013 at 07:54 PM
AK, biz is good, but it could be better if someone drives through the front of the place you work part time at. I've always wanted to put French doors in front of the place but one of the owners has had a common Italian disease for the last 30 years called "Mafunzallo". Unfortunately, there is no cure for this sickness except a fat insurance check. Have a great New Year!
