Oak Terrace Principal Wins Statewide Award

Principal Sandy Anderson is recognized for her extraordinary commitment to her students.

Congratulations to Oak Terrace Principal Sandy Anderson, who was recognized Saturday, October 22 at the 37th annual Illinois State Board of Education’s Those Who Excel awards banquet in Bloomington.   Principal Anderson, who has been in her role at Oak Terrace for the last seven years, received an Award of Merit in the school administrator category.

She has consistently been recognized for her efforts and success in improving school achievement and closing the achievement gap for non-native English speakers and students from low-income families. She is an outstanding team leader, known for her collaborative approach and for forging community partnerships to expand both in-school and extracurricular educational opportunities for Oak Terrace students. She has taken the lead in using data about academic and behavioral/social/emotional growth to drive instructional decision-making to lead to student achievement gains.

“I believe that one of the greatest honors we have in our profession is to be recognized by our own peers, so I was particularly delighted to learn that Sandy earned statewide recognition,” said North Shore School District 112 Superintendent David L. Behlow, Ph.D. “She has long been respected within our community for her passion and dedication to both students and staff.  She sets high standards for them, and then does everything in her power to ensure the necessary resources are in place to meet those standards.  She truly does excel.”
