Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Evanston, and the City of Evanston along with supporters from the community, proudly cut the ribbon to officially announce Rainbows for All Children’s new location at 1007 Church Street.

While a few children are resilient, most do not bounce back without help.  Since their founding in 1983, over 3 million children and teens throughout 50 United States and 16 other countries such as Australia, Canada, England, and Ireland have been helped and supported by Rainbows’ programs.

Through a community of trained facilitators and a repository of resources designed to guide youth in their grieving process, Rainbows’ programs help children:

  • Build confidence and self-esteem

  • Improve communication in their families

  • Prevent destructive behaviors such as involvement with gangs, alcohol, and substance abuse

  • Increase school attendance and academic performance

  •  “Our entire staff is energized with our decision to move our worldwide headquarters to Evanston for a multitude of reasons,” says Bob Thomas, Executive Director and C.E.O. of Rainbows for All Children. “The city’s vibrancy, diversity and welcoming support towards non-profits attracted us to the community.  Its central location allows us to reach our youth in the metropolitan area quickly. Additionally, Evanston's proximity to universities and public transportation is great for staff and volunteer recruitment.  This all contributes towards helping us more effectively provide to those who need our services.”

Elaine Kemna-Irish, Executive Director of the Evanston Chamber of Commerce adds, “I continue to be amazed by the diverse resources such as Rainbows for All Children available to our Evanston community of families.”

Entertaining the crowd was the harmonizing and energetic talents of Northwestern’s a cappella group Purple Haze who performed a broad range of songs specially chosen for the occasion.    LYFE Kitchens and Foodstuffs of Evanston generously donated the food for the event showcasing fresh and low-calorie food items.
