FONSECA CUP 2013 DRAWING COMPETITORS FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE

Karate Competition Takes Place Saturday, October 19th and Sunday, October 20th

 

Have you registered yet to participate in the Fonseca Cup 2013? This is the third year that John and Elisa Au Fonseca, co-owners of Fonseca Martial Arts-with dojos in Evanston, Chicago and Wilmette and 25 other satellite locations throughout Chicago and the North Shore-have sponsored this international event, which is awarding $10,000 in cash prizes to the winners of various divisions.

The Fonseca Cup 2013 is sanctioned by the Amateur Athletic Union and USA Karate (USA-National Karate-Do Federation).

The Fonseca Cup 2013 will be held on Saturday, October 19th and Sunday, October 20th in Beardsley Gym at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Avenue, in Evanston, Illinois.

The tournament will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the Advanced and Elite Kata (Form) Divisions. The men’s and women’s Elite Kata forms final will be held at 7 p.m., with the winners taking home $1,000 each.

At 4 p.m., the Elite 18-34-year-old men and women Kumite (Sparring) divisions will begin. There are four categories, with the winner in each category receiving $500. The fight for the grand championship is $2000 for each man or woman.

On Sunday, various children’s divisions will be arranged by age and skill. "We encourage children taking classes to participate in this event," said John Fonseca. "Helpers will be on hand to assist young students with their katas. Our goal is to provide fun and memorable experience for all our students."

In addition, adult and senior beginners, novices and people 18 years and older will also have a chance to compete.

Fees for competing are $60 for one event and $65 for two events. The elite division fees are $100 each. Spectator admission is $5 for those 13-years and older. Children are free.
