Local Sports Medicine Symposium to Focus on Keeping Student Athletes in Top Health

Highland Park High School, The Giants Club and NorthShore University HealthSystem are hosting an upcoming sports medicine symposium called “Keeping Young Athletes Healthy.” The symposium will take place from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. on Thursday, March 20 in the Highland Park High School Auditorium, 433 Vine Avenue, Highland Park. The event is free and open to the public.

In the world of today’s competitive youth athletics, parents, coaches and athletic trainers are important partners to help keep young athletes in optimum health and prevent injuries. The symposium will address various topics related to student athlete health and feature experts in the fields of Orthopaedic and Primary Care Sports Medicine from NorthShore University HealthSystem. The specialists include Dr. Carrie Jaworski, who will talk about nutrition; Dr. Scott Repa, who will discuss concussion awareness and education; Dr. Brad Dunlap, who will address injury evaluation and return-to-play considerations; and physical therapist Jason Sweas, who will speak on rehabilitation and injury prevention.
