Responding to a wide range of community needs, Northbrook Citizens for Drug and Alcohol Awareness (“NCDAA”) is proud to partner with the Family Action Network (“FAN”) to present a new Parent University speaker series. This series of programs features noted experts on substance abuse, parenting strategies, and other family issues in presentations that are open to the public, free of charge.
Operating as an independent agency with support from the North Suburban YMCA, NCDAA has become a central element to the Y’s new Family Life Education Department. Under the leadership of a volunteer board and department director Sari Glazebrook, MSW/CADC, NCDAA has drawn from its decades of experience as a community service organization to create updated versions of its established programs. In addition to the new Parent University series, NCDAA continues to sponsor Community Activities of Northbrook (“CAN”), a teen youth group that promotes service and positive social connections for high school students.
“NCDAA has a long legacy of educating parents and supporting families in Northbrook,” noted NCDAA Board Chairman Philip Ruben. “Our connection to the North Suburban Y, and new partnerships with groups like Family Action Network, enable us to extend our reach to neighboring communities and also expand the range of topics we cover.”

The FAN/NCDAA speaker series will present two programs every month through May 2014. On February 5 at 7:00pm, the series welcomes authors David and Nic Sheff to present “Preventable and Treatable: A Family Portrait” at New Trier High School’s Gaffney Auditorium, 385 Winnetka Road in Winnetka. The authors, father and son, will discuss the devastating impact of Nic’s drug addiction and their family’s path through discovery, treatment, relapse and recovery. Northbrook Citizens for Drug and Alcohol Awareness (“NCDAA”) is a volunteer-based, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community organization, dedicated to the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by our youth. NCDAA proposes to accomplish this mission by initiating, organizing, facilitating, and coordinating family and community prevention efforts; collaborating with other sectors of our community in prevention efforts; providing information and education on alcohol, tobacco and other drug related issues; and networking with other local, state and national organizations.
