SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM: OUR ROLE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN

Sustainability in Our Community:

Our Role in Making It Happen

Sustainability.   Just a dressed-up version of environmentalism?  Or something more?  Community members will be briefed on the multiple sustainability efforts underway in Highland Park and will hear how they can make their own contributions on Thursday, September 26 at a meeting organized by the League of Women Voters of Highland Park/Highwood.  Doors will open at 6:45 pm and the meeting will begin at 7 pm in the community meeting room of the Highland Park Police Department, 1677 Old Deerfield Road.

Panelists will include Liza McElroy, Executive Director, and Rick Stumpf, Director of Planning and Projects, describing the GreenPrint 2024 planning process for the Park District of Highland Park; Debbie Bohmbach, an active volunteer with the City of Highland Park focusing on residential recycling efforts; Bryan Tillman, Sustainability Director for the City of Highland Park, outlining progress on the Community Sustainability Strategic Plan; and Tom Koulentes, Assistant Principal at Highland Park High School, sharing many projects engaging students in making a more environmentally friendly school.

“The League has a long history of studying and advocating for policies and actions that preserve our environment,” says Barbara G. Lippai, local League president.  “Many of us are keenly interested in what we, as individuals, can do to support these community-wide efforts.”
