The Honorable Secretary Of State Jesse White Shares His Memories of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the 5th Annual Multi-generational MLK Day of Service

Partner with community friends and family on Monday January 20, 2014 from 10am to 2pm at the Recreation Center of Highland Park for the 5th Annual MLK Day of Service.  Purposeful service projects and entertainment will engage all ages.  The Honorable Jesse White, Illinois Secretary of State will recount his experiences as a student of Dr. King. The Jesse White Tumbling Team will be on hand as will Two Soldiers and a Marine Food Truck serving hands down best ever BBQ.  Don’t miss the McCormick Foundation Freedom Express Museum, a 45-foot traveling museum that offers visitors an opportunity to explore their First Amendment freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly and petition, or Highland Park’s very own Lynn Epps, performing A Portrait of Dr. King.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

Service projects will include assembling toiletries for PADS, creating valentine messages for Operation Support Our Troops, decorate and fill book bags for distribution at North Shore Health Clinic. Welcome campers for the summer with SCOPE lead by Heather Knobel. Join Wayne Thomas School, packaging soup mix and recipes for the Moraine Township Food Bank, and much more.

Toiletry donations will be accepted Monday January 13th to Friday January 17th, at the Firehouse Youth Center between 3 and 5 PM.
