Chief Keef Leaves Highland Park Mansion, Officers Say in Eviction

His landlord says the rapper, who has run afoul of the law in the past, was not evicted, but the sheriff’s office disagrees.

Rapper Chief Keef, who has run afoul of the law several times since moving to the North Shore, left his Highland Park rental home Tuesday, according to an article in TribLocal.

The Lake County Sheriff’s office, which had officers on hand for the departure, said it was an eviction, according to the article. But the home’s owner said he was not evicting the rapper, whose real name is Keith Cozart, and that he has been a good tenant.

Neighbors disagreed, and told TribLocal they had to call police with complaints about the young man for fights, cars coming and going and, once, for gunshots.

This spring, the landlord filed eviction papers against Cozart, saying he was $30,000 behind on rent. The five-bedroom, 5,625-square-foot home sits on a cul-de-sac, according to Curbed Chicago.

Cozart has had criminal problems on the North Shore as well. He was also pulled over in March on Skokie Valley Road and charged with DUI. He has also twice been arrested for speeding on the Edens, once for going 110 mph and once for 88 mph, according to police.
