Gallery: Weather Cooperates With Winter Celebration

Villagers enjoy horse-drawn sleigh rides, music, food and more Friday and Saturday.

Mid fall weather greeted Deerfield’s citizens as they took part in the Village’s annual Winter Celebration Friday and Saturday at numerous downtown locations.

People came out for rides in a horse drawn sleigh, a variety of holiday music performed both days throughout the Village, activities sponsored by merchants and there was an opportunity to visit with Santa Claus.

Santa arrived at Koenig & Strey and was there to hear children’s holiday wishes for Christmas gifts. There were also Dreidel games, a traditional Hanukkah activity, at the real estate office.

On Friday Mayor Harriet Rosenthal and members of the Village Board of Trustees served dinner at Village Hall provided by Bobby’s Deerfield while people listened to holiday music played by a number of groups.

“Everyone is enjoying themselves and the Village look great,” Rosenthal said. “People are getting in the holiday spirit.”

One of those people was Lisa Waldron of Deerfield who was on a sleigh ride with three generations of her family Saturday. “It’s a lot of fun,” she said. “Grandma is there. She’ the crossing guard,” she added pointing to the woman helping keep things safe.
