Highland Park Earns Bike-Friendly Distinction

It has been awarded an honorable mention as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.

The following is from the City of Highland Park:

The City of Highland Park has been awarded an Honorable Mention as a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) by the League of American Bicyclists on May 14, 2014. With nearly 40 million Americans bicycling in 2012 and U.S. bike commuting increasing more than 61% from 2000 to 2012, there's growing consensus that making biking better is a key component of a healthy, livable community.  Highland Park is actively pursuing such a goal by continuing to implement the Bike-Walk HP 2030 Plan approved by the City Council in September 2012.

The BFC program helps transform the way communities evaluate quality of life by assessing investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure and municipal policies.

City Staff will be reviewing input from the League of American Bicyclists and developing new bicycle facilities improvements, programs and will reapply for consideration as a BFC in the future.
