Highland Park Fire Survivors Seek Lost Cat

Family of four escaped devastating fire Oct. 23 but they are still looking for Pumpkin, their cat. They need our help.

When a Highland Park home at 1540 Hawthorne Lane was burned into a total loss Oct. 23, a mother, father and two young children escaped without injury but their black cat, Pumpkin, remains missing.

Katie Schmanski, her husband Matt and their two young children smelled smoke, called 911 and fled immediately, according to Highland Park Fire Chief Pat Tanner. In their haste, they could not gather Pumpkin.

The Schmanskis are communicating Pumpkin’s disappearance in a number of ways. Take a look at the picture of their pet and email me (steve.sadin@patch.com) if you see the cat. We will arrange the reunion.

Later this week Patch will run a story about how thankful the Schmanskis are this season for what they have and their plans to restore their Highland Park home.
