It has been one year since Jaclyn Santos-Sacramento, then 5, was allegedly killed by a motorist charged with reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence.
On the anniversary of Jaclyn’s death, approximately 30 people took time to remember the five-year-old Tuesday in Sunset Park and dedicate a bench in her memory, according to an article in the Chicago Tribune.
"She said she's going to do this once a year on the anniversary of her death,” family friend Juan Ruelas said in the Tribune story translating a statement by Modesta Sacramento Jimenez, Jaclyn's mother. “She likes to come here because Jaclyn used to love to play here." Rev. Tom Baldonieri of Highwood’s St. James Parish blessed the site with prayer and holy water.
Carly Rousso, 19, of Highland Park has been charged with the homicide. She returns to Court Sept. 18 for a pretrial, according to a spokesperson for the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
