Weather Warm-Up On the Way: Temps Near 60 Sunday and Monday
Will harsh winter conditions have an effect on spring and summer temperatures this year?
Temperatures flirted with the 60s last week and it looks like we will see a warm up again this weekend-as well as for the start of next week.
Temps could reach a high of 58 degrees on Sunday with sunny skies in the forecast, according to the National Weather Service. On Monday, highs in the upper 50's are in the forecast with a chance of rain and showers also expected throughout the day.
Temperatures are expected to drop back down to the 40's for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Winter Weather: What Does it Mean for Spring?
The past winter has been one of the coldest in Chicago's history.The winter season saw the most days at or below zero degrees. Also, the Chicago area recorded a total of 80 inches of snow, making it the third-snowiest winter on record, according to Accuweather.com.
But what does the cold winter mean for the spring weather?
For the Chicago area, seven of the meteorological springs following a top 20 cold winter were also one of the top 20 coldest springs on record. Twelve out of 20 were considered cooler than average, according to the National Weather Service.
Only one was considered average spring (within 1°F of normal) and the remaining seven were warmer than average, according to the National Weather Service.
