Zipcar Car Sharing Launches in Highland Park Next Week

Two cars will be located at the Central Metra Station.

The following is from the City of Highland Park:

Zipcar, a car sharing company that offers wheels by the hour or by the day, will begin serving Highland Park on June 11, 2014 when two Zipcars become available for use at the Central Metra Station.

The two forthcoming cars will be located in the station’s western parking lot.

The Zipcar street team will be onsite June 11 to assist interested users to sign-up for Zipcar membership. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch of the Zipcars will be held at 5:30 p.m. that same day. All are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting.

Bringing car sharing to Highland Park has been an important piece of the community’s strategic sustainability plan and will work in conjunction with the City’s eco-friendly transportation enhancements, such as improved bicycle infrastructure. Car sharing facilitates household transitions to a zero-car lifestyle by providing access to a personal vehicle on an as-needed basis and helps to reduce our community’s carbon footprint.
