As they do every year, cannons boomed out over Highland Park today ending Ravinia's annual Tchaikovsky tribute by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
As the orchestra played strains of the Marseillaise and the familiar 12 bars that set off the cannons celebrating a Russian victory over the French, all eyes were on the roped off section of the lawn containing the cannons.
When it was over, the sound of the applause was louder than the artillery's noise.
