Midwest Young Artists
VX ~ A Studio Vocal Ensemble
• For highly qualified and motivated high school vocalists who desire to advance their skills in the recording studio environment
...• Weekly recording sessions coached by Gary Fry, highly regarded music producer and Emmy-winning composer
• Concentration on sight-reading, style interpretation of a variety of genres from classical to rock to jazz to commercial using actual charts from professional recording sessions; instruction in studio recording techniques for vocalists using up-to-date recording technology
• Very limited enrollment (no more than 16 singers total, balanced male and female) allows group and individual coaching
• Audition requirements include preparing two short (1 minute) excerpts from pieces in contrasting styles (one classical or Broadway song, one jazz or pop song), plus sight-reading. Good basic sight-reading skills will be essential; this select ensemble is designed for the area's best high-school vocal musicians to advance rapidly. Many will audition, few will be chosen!
Auditions will be held in November 2011
Priority will be given to singers already enrolled in Chorale.
Program begins January 2012
