Wayne Thomas Arts in Action Fine Arts Festival

March is recognized as National Youth Art Month and National Music In Our Schools Month. This year Wayne Thomas students will participate in an entire afternoon of Arts in Action to celebrate these events.  This extraordinary program brings the magic of the arts to children through the talents of the community.  Arts in Action is celebrating its inaugural year at Wayne Thomas School on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. The afternoon begins at 12:45 pm, with an all-school assembly featuring Northwood Junior High School’s band.  After the assembly, each student will attend three of the twenty workshops that will be presented.  Students selected their workshops in advance.  Classrooms will be transformed into dance studios, theatres, concert halls, and visual artist workshops.

Artist volunteers come from Highland Park and surrounding communities.  These include Wayne Thomas parent and teacher artists, studio artists from The Arts Center in Highland Park (Cheryl Steiger & Natalie Steinmetz), North Shore School of Dance, Soul2Sole, North Shore Senior Center (Burt Winick), School of Rock, Mia Bella Yarn Studio, and many others.  This special activity could not be done without their generous donations of time and talents.
