Lake Forest's Ragdale Calling for Artists to Design New Outdoor Performance Space

Design proposals sought for "Ragdale Ring" project.

Ragdale, a nationally-acclaimed artist residency program in Lake Forest, is putting out the call seeking artists, architects and designers to submit their concept plan for a new outdoor performance space called the "Ragdale Ring," to be utilized during the summer for a variety of events.

"Ragdale welcomes proposals for full-scale projects and installations that explore contemporary, fanciful and functional interpretations of the original Ragdale Ring, designed by architect Howard Van Doren Shaw in 1912 as an outdoor garden theatre for plays written by his wife, Frances Shaw," according to a press release.

Proposals must be submitted through the ArtsApp online portal: at www.artsapp.com/ragdale by Thursday, Feb. 28.

A jury of architects, artists and arts administrators will select a single project to realize at full-scale on the Ragdale grounds. The recipient will receive a $10,000 production grant to fund the project as well as an outdoor studio, room and board for the design team in May.

The winning team will be notified by March 12, the installation/residency will take place in May and the project will be completed by June 1.
