When Omri Amrany isn't sculpting what he refers to as the "sculpting montage," lifelike figures that include natural elements with surreal results, he's sculpting sports tributes.
The Israeli-born artist has been commissioned to sculpt tribute busts of Michael Jordan at United Center, Harry Caray at Wrigley Field and Jackie Chan in Hong Kong. Most recently, he did a bronze bust of Scottie Pippen, which was unveiled on April 7 at the United Center.
"When you combine several dimensions together through the three-dimensional technique of sculpting, it creates something else completely," Armrany said.
The artist spoke with Patch about assembling both kinds of work and why he has such a fondness for maple leaves.
