High School Band Performs European Tour

HPHS Woodwind Symphony on European Trip

Recently I had the pleasure of attending a concert for members of featuring the Woodwind Symphony. These kids are amazing!

Band Director, Dr. Jim Hile, deserves the community’s praise for inspiring his band students to make great music and having fun doing it. Several graduating seniors were introduced that afternoon and a number plan to major in music at universities. One band member plays with one of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras.

The Woodwind Symphony currently is on a European tour to Prague and Vienna during Spring break. Their tour program focuses on Slavic composers or musical pieces of a Slavic nature. The HP Senior Center concert attendees had the chance to preview that program and were treated to some incredibly difficult music that for the most part was handled nicely by the students.

The current trip is one of several that have been made by HPHS bands. Since 2000, the bands have been to China twice, Italy, Germany, Japan, and HP’s sister city, Puerto Vallarta.

A concert is scheduled for Thursday, May 3 at 7 pm in the HP High School auditorium. The public is invited.
