The Irony of a Recent Email Regarding Power Outages

Are emails the best approach to reaching the widest audience when the electric power goes out?

Here's what I find ironic about the email: No electricity means no computer.

I wonder how many residents have desktop computers or none at all. Having no electric power would mean those with desktops could not read this email. I guess the assumption is that everyone has a smart phone or a laptop.

But one can argue that something is better than nothing.

The 2000 census for Highland Park indicated a population of residents over 65 years old at 15.1 percent. I would think that they're the ones who need info on who to call if power lines are down or to report outages.

Maybe a blurb that can be clipped out from the next "Highlander" might be appropriate.
