CITY OF HIGHWOOD CLEANS UP GARBAGE SERVICE TO DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES AND RESIDENTS

New contracts will save businesses money and offer more services to residents

HIGHWOOD, IL (MARCH 2012) – The City of Highwood is proud to announce new garbage service contracts that will save businesses money and offer more services to residents.  Two five-year contracts were awarded, one to Groot Industries, Inc. for commercial solid waste hauling and the other to Veolia Waste Services, Inc. for residential pick-up.  With a renewed focus on cost-savings and recycling, the City hopes to work in partnership with its residents and businesses to reduce the amount of refuse through the promotion of a citywide recycling program.  The new contracts and services will go into effect April or May 2012.

As part of the new commercial agreement, Highwood businesses will see a significant cost reduction for refuse hauling.  Groot has committed to work with each business to determine the ideal size and frequency of service and distribute new dumpsters and a recycling toter free of charge.  “We will work with the City and with Groot to insure a seamless transition for all businesses and no business will be without a dumpster,” says Bob Pfister, Veolia Municipal Marketing Manager.

Veolia will continue to provide many of the same benefits and exemplary level of service for refuse, recycling, landscape waste, and private collection to Highwood residents and City facilities. In addition, Highwood residents will receive recycling toters on wheels, to replace their recycling bins, within the next couple of months.  Residential refuse and recycling will still be picked up on Wednesdays, as it has been in Highwood for many years.

“The City will continue to ensure that all residents and businesses are getting exemplary refuse and recycling services,” states Jon Kindseth, Assistant to the City Manager. “These new service contracts will undoubtedly be a positive change for the City and the community as a whole.”
