How did the business come to be?

North Suburban Wellness was established in 2002 as an integrative medical clinic and wellness center in the heart of downtown Highland Park. I joined the diverse group of wellness practitioners in June 2013.

What is your business best known for?

As a chiropractic physician, it is my goal to provide individuals relief from pain and compromised range of motion. I figure what is the cause of the problem and treat the dysfunction and not just the symptoms.  I utilize soft tissue movement based treatments and traditional chiropractic manipulations to assess, then treat, individual needs. I am board certified in chiropractic medicine and I am a full body certified "A.R.T." provider (Active Release Technique) as well as certified in the Mckenzie Method for the neck and back.

North Suburban Wellness brings together, under one roof, a group of wellness practitioners that believe that integrative medicine looks at the body as a whole and not as separate unrelated parts. That an integrative wellness approach facilitates a powerful ability to heal and cure. It is our mission to educate, treat and provide a healthcare option whereby healthcare is transformed from a reactive, disease oriented model to a pro-active wellness model fully engaging the mind, body and the spirit.

As for me, I am very patient centered. I care and I want my patients to feel that their concerns have been heard, that the appropriate amount of time has been spent to understand and to treat their needs. There are no pre-determined treatment plans or formulas as everything I do is individualized for the patient. My satisfaction is helping people return to be functional and being able to perform their activities of daily living.

How did you choose the area you did for your business?

I grew up in Bannockburn and attended Deerfield High School. I then went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin Madison and subsequently earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic Medicine at National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL.  As I evaluated locations and communities to build my practice it became very apparent, very quickly, that my roots, my family and my friends are in the Highland Park and Deerfield area. My new bride, Rachael Swetin, also grew up in this area so we feel incredibly comfortable and connected to the community. We are community "fans" and want to be able to contribute our skills and knowledge - professionally and personally - to its continued growth and success. It was important to me to align with a practice of like-minded individuals.

What is something most people don’t know about your business?

We are a lot of fun and there is so much here under one roof! In addition to Dr. Henson and myself, both chiropractic medicine providers, the group of practitioners at North Suburban Wellness includes the following areas of specialization: Audiology, Osteopathic Medicine, Acupuncture, Nutritional Counseling, Yoga Teachers (group and private), Massage Therapy, a Clinical Psychologist and a great nutritional supplement boutique.  Aristotle said, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" and we find that to be true not only about health and the body but also about our team at North Suburban Wellness.
