CITY OF HIGHWOOD HOLDS FIRST ANNUAL GARLIC FEST WEDNESDAY AUGUST 17th FROM 4-9pm

 

HIGHWOOD, IL (AUGUST 2011)—The City of Highwood is about to stink up the Midwest as it hosts its first ever Garlic Fest on August 17th from 4-9 pm, during its infamous Evening Gourmet Farmers Market, located in front of City Hall, 17 Highwood Avenue.   This fun food filled event will showcase the ever-popular taste of Garlic, known for its culinary and medicinal purposes.  Attendees can sample a variety of garlic creations from out-of-the-ordinary garlic ice cream, candy, cupcakes and beverages, to the more usual pastas, sauces, breads and butters.

Two lucky vendors will be given the title of Tastiest Garlic Creation in the People Choice Competition for Savory and Sweet concoctions.  So come out and vote for your favorite Garlic recipe.  For more info on becoming a vendor, visit www.highwoodgarlicfest.com.

Highwood is also currently on the lookout for its first “Garlic Queen” to be crowned the evening of Garlic Fest.  Anyone 18 or older can sign up for the Garlic Queen Pageant.  Voting begins August 1s t.  A Garlic Queen talent show will occur on August 10th at the Evening Gourmet Farmers Market.  Contestants can go on line to www.highwoodgarlicfest.com or visit Jordan Joseph Encore, The Alley or Gabe’s Backstage Lounge to register. 

 

The Garlic Queen will be responsible for making appearances at all major Highwood events throughout the year including leading the Pumpkin Fest Parade and addressing our local military during Highwood for the Holidays.  Each contestant will be scored on the number of votes received at www.highwoodgarlicfest.com.  Highwood Special Events Committee will tally scores and announce the Garlic Queen and her court at 8pm August 17th during Garlic Fest.

 

Garlic Fest will also be featuring a Mini Avalanche, garlic ice cream eating competition, sponsored by The Cooling Station, as well as the annual Terrific Tomato Contest, where Highwood residents can show off their perfect tomatoes from their garden, sponsored by the Highwood Historical Society. 


Winners of all competitions will be announced at 8 p.m. August 17th during Garlic Fest.

 

The smell of garlic will surely lure people from all over the Midwest to Highwood’s First Annual Garlic Fest.  And, there will be plenty of breath mints on hand.
