Hurricane Isaac Expected to Cause Steep Increase in Gas Prices

AAA officials have said that Hurricane Isaac may cause gas prices in Highland Park to rise 25 cents a gallon.

Highland Park gas prices are expected to rise 25 cents a gallon by this time next week.

Officials from AAA have said that Hurricane Issac, which made landfall in southeast Louisiana on Tuesday, will shut down offshore oil rigs.

The cheapest unleaded gas available in Highland Park as of Tuesday afternoon is $4.08 per gallon, at on Central Avenue which means gas could reach as high as $4.33 by Sept. 3.

Hurricane Isaac, which spans nearly 200 miles from its center, made landfall at about 6:45 p.m. near the mouth of the Mississippi River, according to Fox News. It landed just ahead of the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
