Ice Sculptures Return to Downtown

Sheridan Road retailers gear up for three day shopping event.

They're back.

Now that winter has finally arrived, downtown Highland Park retailers are planning to get into the snowy spirit by filling Sheridan Road with . Beginning Thursday at 3 p.m., 15 ice sculptures will be placed throughout downtown Highland Park. The event wraps up at 4 p.m. on Jan. 21.

"We're all coming together," said owner Lisa Norcia, one of the participating retailers in Rock — Stroll — Shop Sheridan Road. "Every single store on Sheridan Road is going to do something."

Working with the , participating retailers and restaurants will also offer discounts during the three-day event, including a 20 percent discount at , a 10 percent discount for dining-in customers at and a 10 percent storewide sale at .

"Retail has to really come together, whether its a business or a store or a restaurant," Norcia said. "We're all working together to get people in our stores."

In addition to the sculptures and discounts, the event will offer prizes to those that win the "Name That Tune" Ice Sculpture competition, sponsored by the . Participants are asked to name a rock and roll song, lyric or music genre that the ice sculptures remind them of. The grand prize is a Squire acoustic guitar.
