Market House Introduces Sunday Brunch

The Lake Forest restaurant Market House on the Square debuted its new brunch menu this past Sunday.

The Lake Forest restaurant Market House on the Square debuted its Sunday brunch menu last weekend.

The menu includes riffs on breakfast staples, like a benedict with pork belly and bacon, a poached egg and sweet chili hollandaise sauce. Another unique offering is smoked fish and grits. Then there's the pork belly and potato hash, which comes with Kim Chi.

As Market House owner Mark Westcott says, this is not your typical North Shore brunch.

"This is brunch on steroids," the owner said in an interview earlier this week.

Westcott explained that the inspiration for the brunch menu came from the restaurant's approach to its everyday menu: traditional, American cuisine, with a twist.

"We want it to come out better than you remember," Westcott said.

The owner looks at last Sunday's brunch as a trial run, and said that it went well.

"We were surprisingly busy," he said. "Things were really well received."

In addition to the food, patrons can also grab a house Bloody Mary, a mimosa or a pomegranate sunrise, a drink that includes orange juice, pineapple juice and Patron Silver (in addition to, you know, pomegranate).

Westcott said the brunch menu would change depending on what ingredients were available, much like the restaurant's everyday menu.

"Our menus are generally dynamic, it depends on the ingredients we can get."
