Hammerli 120: The ultimate hybrid and crossover

The first series of Hammerli free pistols, the 100-107 series, were an older design, in part based on those from Record and Tell in Germany.  The 120 was a new design by the person with primary responsibility for the 208.  The 120 applies the Luger locking system to a free pistol.  The result was a pistol with accuracy close to that of the best rifles to 100 yards, but compact size.

The 120 is not perfect as a free pistol.  It's heavy, and uses a right-angle grip like the usual military pistol.  These factors reduce its accuracy in actional use.  However, it has a scope dovetail already in place which can be converted to Weaver dimensions with an adapter.  With the scope, many find it an excellent replacement for hunting rifles, with less weight and smaller size.

The gun is not used usually in free pistol competition, but is extremely popular for everything else.  The long barrel also makes it idea for in-home ranges due to the ability to use low velocity cartridges with good accuracy.  The simple locking mechanism and trigger are very durable.

Trigger pull can not be adjusted as low as most free pistols (1/2 oz), but it can be set to a several pound upper limit, which is not possible with most free pistols.

Depending on configuration of the gun, it may be an assault weapon in Highland Park, or not.  In the "trade", that is precisely one of its uses, if the Steyr is not available or if a scope or night vision is required.

Two grip configurations are available, one with a lower shelf and one without.

Hammerli made a few short barreled versions, and a few heavy barreled ones.  The short barrel version is an accurate gun for one with a 6" barrel.  The heavy barrel gun does not improve the accuracy.  The conical barrel used already suppresses vibration very well, and is relatively heavy.

Some of the Hammerli 120 guns illustrated already are under reservation by Patch readers, and will not be available at the Banned in Highland Park gun show.
