District 113 Looks for Volunteers to Look at Facility Needs

District 113 Hosts Multiple Study Group Meetings Pertaining to Facilities

Last spring, District 113 asked the community to that would address significant facility issues at both Deerfield and Highland Park High School and would allow for appropriate upgrading of technology. The referendum ; however, the needs remain. In an effort to move forward, District 113 has formed community action teams. These community volunteers are working together to analyze key aspects of the facility/technology plan. They will then report to a Leadership Team who will make a recommendation to the District 113 Board of Education about next steps. The areas that volunteers and staff are studying include:

  1. Teaching and Learning/The Classroom Environment

  • PE/Athletics/1914 Buildings/DHS Athletic Fields

  • Building Systems/Building Envelope/Life Safety

  • Finance/Cost Analysis/Budget Development/Cost Estimating

  • Market Research
  • Members of the study groups are invested in this process and the District 113 Board of Education is extremely grateful for their time, interest, and expertise.

Most recently, the Market Research team met and shared plans for their study. The Market Research team is comprised of market research experts who do this type of work as their profession. Their goal is to complete two different types of
surveys:  qualitative and quantitative. The qualitative surveys will be focus group interviews with a random sampling of community members. Facilitators of these focus groups will be market research experts. They will ask questions about the facility plan that failed as well as gain insight into the facility and technology plan priorities that community members espouse. The quantitative study will be an on-line survey. It is anticipated that all community members will be invited to participate in the survey. The focus groups will be conducted in late August, early September and the on-line survey is in process now. No dates have been established yet for the completion window of the on-line survey.

Meeting minutes of all the study groups will be available on the District 113 website. A calendar of meetings is now available on the District 113 website. Members of the public are invited to attend as audience members. The overall goal of these study groups is to provide the community with a forum to make recommendations about next steps regarding the facility/technology needs of Deerfield and Highland Park High School.
