Leukemia Research Foundation Honors HPHS for Charity Drive

Highland Park High School receives Star Award from LRF.

Highland Park High School received a unique honor from the Leukemia Research Foundation on Sunday. The LRF picked HPHS to be its 2012 Star Award honoree for their fundraising efforts during Charity Drive last school year. HPHS raised an incredible $175,000 for the organization. HPHS was recognized for those accomplishments at the Foundation’s annual luncheon over the weekend.

The Star Award was created as the LRF’s top acknowledgement, its highest honor of respect and gratitude presented to a select few who have enabled the Foundation to “reach for the stars.” The Award has been presented to 24 previous
recipients in the 66 year history of the LRF.

“Highland Park High School’s 2012 Charity Drive was such an extraordinary success in so many ways. Throughout the six weeks of activities it was inspiring to watch the students take such ownership of Charity Drive,” LRF Executive Director Kevin Radelet said. “Their dedication, enthusiasm, and unshakable positive attitude were infectious. It was equally as moving to witness the faculty at HPHS provide proficient direction while allowing the students to lead the charge in their own way.”

Highland Park Principal Brad Swanson was one of several HPHS representatives in attendance to accept the award. He too thanked HPHS for their efforts and spoke about his family’s personal battles with Leukemia.

The LRF will use Highland Park High School’s contribution to help fund annual
grants provided for worldwide medical research.
